There are numerous testimonies over the web from people who are currently attending or have already left Gracepoint churches. People have witnessed spiritual abuse, legalism, fear and depression while attending Gracepoint. I highly recommend you to find these websites by yourself by searching Gracepoint Abuse in Google.
Although the sites primarily focus on the issues surrounding the Gracepoint Berkeley church run by Ed and Kelly Kang, many of these issues are also manifested in other Gracepoint churches including Davis. The symptoms are extremely similar:
Public rebukes
Policing behavior
Labelling others
Heavy emphasis on obeying leaders rather than convictions by the Holy Spirit
Marriage and relationship problems
Huge gender segregation
Loss of individuality
Heavy dependence on leadership for problems that SHOULD be resolved individually
Universal Daily Devotions Format
Hypocrisy of allowing things (e.g. dating), yet simultaneously rebukes those who do such things
Intentional flooding of websites to clear out Truth websites that expose Gracepoint’s dangerous culture
Militaristic organisation to harvest brainwashed college students to plant churches for Gracepoint
Replacing one’s goals planned by God by those planned by the leaders of Gracepoint including giving up on careers
The need to conform with others to prevent exposure in being rebuked
The need to spend time with Gracepoint Family instead of the biological family
Directing the source of the problems to the individual, NOT the leaders of Gracepoint
Legalistic Environment, where efficiency is highly valued. Meeting the ‘quota’ by attending various gracepoint events, outings and retreats will indicate you as a Good Christian.
If you have witnessed any of these symptoms and have doubts whether you are progressing as a Christian, it is time to think whether it is justified to stay or leave this church. This is why I highly suggest you to continue reading a few resources to fully understand the problems surrounding the legalistic Gracepoint church. Search in Google Gracepoint Abuse, Gracepoint Berkeley, or Gracepoint Legalism – whatever you feel like. The results are easy to find.
